12" Spike Calibration?

Can anyone tell me the calibration range for the 3/8"x12" spikes that are sold in hardware stores ? I know they would have a range of weight calibration just like the 60d's do. The shiny ones that I have are tougher than the galv.

They are all over the place bro. The ones you get at Home Depot and Lowes can be easy enough to bend unbraced, while the tree island spikes and others like them can be fairly tough to get started. The average 12" spike you get at HD would probably calibrate the same as a 60D or less, but the longer length makes it a different bend. I bent a Tree Island Spike cut down to 7" the other day that was as hard or harder than a 6.5" X 3/8" CRS BKOAB to brace bend. Once you get way out to 12", calibrations don't really line up well with what we consider calibrations for short steel. The wire steel they use is very unpredictable and even in the same batch spikes will be all over the place. But if you are bending them easy, just move down to a 10" and then 8, and then you can keep cutting them down from there. Good luck!
