macaz
My link This is suppose to be dog bone anvil. Looks like an old time strongman thing. Local pick up only, in Scranton Pennsylvania. I just thought it is cool so I’m sharing it.
macaz
I have a feeling the seller does not really know what it is. How is it an anvil????
eduard23
It doesn't look like an anvil. It's more like a dumbbell.
mightyjoe
There's only one book in print that details nearly every anvil made and that apparatus is not pictured in there nor mentioned. BTW, I own a copy of this book, it's titled Anvils In America, by Richard Postman. Edited July 18, 2011 by Mighty Joe

macaz
I've found some picture on the net and it's an old dumbbell. For sure it is a dumbbell. It came from and estate that had a lot of railroad stuff. Maybe a traveling circus strongman owned it. Someone made a bid on it. I hope its someone from the gripboard. If so let us know if "you" get it!
1stCoC
It's on the way. My guess it unless someone can give more info on what and where they saw something "like it" that since it "was" a machine shop it was probably a pet project of perhaps a machinist. The folks I bought it from said they turned "big" shafts there and that as I have seen before it might be an in house crafted piece . Either way, we will figure out something to do with it. Many thanks for the heads up!The visitors here hopefully will have some fun with it. RS
macaz
Great ! I was hoping that someone here bought it. Thanks for letting us know. If you get a better idea of what on earth it really was (is) let us know. I have seen some old strongman photos with guys in cheetah skin unatards bending sideways and holding a dumbbell that looks like this one straight up. That'd be a bent press and @33" it should be a lot more than 65lbs if solid!
