Best Exercises To Make You A Better Bender!

I am looking to become a better bender.

What are the best exercises to assist with this goal.

Right now, I do a lot of leverages and pinch.

How about the Vbar, rolling thunder or anything else you use in your training?

Thanks

Mike

I'm a new bender but from what I've gathered bending is the best answer. You can try other excercises to help in the weak areas but bending will give you the best results at bending!

Big bends are as much overall upper body strength as just wrist and grip related muscles. Lot's of shoulders, chest, back etc involved. I don't think I've ever failed on a bend because of my grip. Start slow - learn the form and add gradually - getting hurt stops all progress.

Best exercise for bending is bending. There's a lot of technique and specific strength involved and you're only gonna learn that by actually bending.

But for strengthening purposes I'd suggest doing sledgehammer levering in all directions, that'll make your wrists real strong. And regular lifting. It's no surprise that most of the really strong benders are really strong overall

I bend twice a week. Aim for that but if you ache stick to once a week until you can add that extra day. I'll bend anywhere between 5 to 15 bars a workout. Make sure you warm up correctly, stay away from injuries.

In addition to bending as often as you feel comfy, heavy pullups/rows and theyre pressing counterparts help a lot. Deadlift too, which I believe there was an article on the diesel crew website about the correlation between heavy deadlifts/upper back strength and bending prowess.

Bending is best for building the specific strength. There is plenty you can do as assistance exercises, but perhaps most important is to progress slowly and take care of your lower arms with preventive measures, antagonistic balance, recovery practices, etc.

volume bending, sledgehammer work and anything that builds lower arm & tendon strength.

warm-up well, be sensible about rehab/prehab & you'll be fine!

bending steel is seriously addictive!

Bending. A lot more than 3-4 nails once a week. Very tough to get any kind of technique dialed in doing anything once per week. And good technique is the holy grail to being a successful bender. Way more important than strength. Although that doesn't hurt either.

One of the biggest things that helped me as far as exercises that

assist in your bending was "Jedd Johnson's Bending E-Book."

The list and description of exercises alone is worth every penny. ;)

Jedd has a new bending DVD coming out as well.

Strangely enough, and much like the old poster Meatloaf used to recommend, I have found that heavy flat benches have helped my DO bending greatly.
