timiacobucci Posted May 9, 2009 Share Posted May 9, 2009 I got some 5/16" 4140 the other day and gave it a go. I was expecting more, it seemed easier than most bastard stock. I did a 7" piece in IM wraps and then a bastard and the bastard felt much harder. Granted the only bastards I have left right now are a few of the dark hard ones that Paul sent me. How much harder are the dark bastards and who else has tried this alloy and how did it feel for you? One other thing though, this alloy is suppose to heat treat very well. The ends were really hard, like trying to skate my file after I cut them with a grinder. Maybe giving them a bit of temper might be fun to try out.
