Amazing stuff Gazza! I could just feel your pain around the 90 degree part.

My own progress so far. I crushed down the grand wich I took down to 2.75". From 2.5 and past 2" it went relativly easy. Right now I'm doing some work on a mag shiny in imps. So far I've only managed a deacent penny kink on it. But I figured if I work on this until it's around 90 or so and do crushdown work in the meantime. A grand shiny should go down easier and hopefully within the 5 minute mark

nice job brotha! How long it take you to crush it down

Thanks man. I spent perhaps 3-4 minutes taking it from 2.75 to 2.5. Rewrapped it and took it from 2.5" to just under 2" in a single hit

But why? I started this race, I can't be out :cry

I like to grab it like a gripper for the final crush down. Well really I grab it like a gripper as early as I can. But at 2.5" or thereabouts I can really get a firm grip around it. Also I do something I'm not to proud of and brace it under my jaw to get a couple of extra lbs of force in it.

Nice work gazza and David!!! You guys are sick!

I wasn't going to do anymore bending for the week, but I read this and decided to hit mine again. I'm definitely lagging behind you guys....took it from 90 to 3.25" spread in two hits. I may not win this race, but by god I'll get it eventually :cool

Yea I wish I could use that technique :dry. I cant get a good grip until the bar's at about 2 inches haha. Small hands suck!

You guys been making any attempts lately? I wanna see some more names added to the list!

That's where my long creepy dracula fingers come well into play.

I'll make another attempt soon enough. I feel that I must be stronger before I try it and I want to have any type of sign signaling a strength gain before I go for it. But within the next week I will go for it again

After watching that Huge die so quickly, I wouldn't be surprised if you win this race Mike :cool

I want to win it!

Unfortunatly I tried it again about half an hour ago. Close but no cigarr. Got it down to 2 1/8 within the 5 minutes. 1/2 off center too. Rewrapped it and took it down to the final 2" mark. Clearly this shows potentional. But it will be a good few days before I try it again.

Good luck Mike and anybody else that goes for it

Nice Job David, to get it down to 2-1/8" Off Center is a great bend :rock I'm just lucky you left the door open for me, lets see if i can take advantage of that in a couple of hours. Now i really need to kill it because you will definately do it next try, no problem.

I failed!!! the race is still on. I am waiting on a delivery from FBBC to get more (unless i can get some from Jim tomorrow) but then i will still need a couple of days to rest.

Anyway, the kink was easy and the second hit got it to exactly 90 degrees. And that was it. So after approx 20 seconds i was done. i kept going for the whole 5 min even took a 30 sec break. in the middle. And no more movement at all. All i did was tire out so bad that my gripper workout will suck tonight (and thats after my kettlebell workout) :(

So David, your still the closest but i am not giving up that easy. A 2 weeks before the huge shiny i had the same exact thing happen to a Huge Bastard. But David, you better not give me too long to get it done. (good luck though)

The odd thing is after i was done i measured it and it was exactly 1/4" off center (i could measure it accurately because it really was at 90 degrees) i tried to crush it braces style between my legs. And i could not move it at all. :whacked i do not know why? but i sis a 1/2" x 12-1/2" braces a couple of months ago so i know how to use my legs, nut this is stuck. The same thing happened to that Huge Bastard a while ago? Anyone else ever have this problem????

Yep, I got the Grand Shiny to 90deg in short order too and got stuck there. Hit again in a couple days, you'll get it moving :) Mine is currently sitting at 2.75 spread, but I haven't touched it in a couple weeks or so. It really ramps up toward the crush! You'll get it Mike!

Thank you Darin, that makes me feel better that someone else has run into this wall. It just seemed that it took no efort at all to get it to 90 so i was confused (and pissed off) and did not think it would ever move past that. I might try it again on Friday and see if i can move it.

Well this is why the shinys and cut shinys are special i feel that most people here with a good bit of training can put a bar even stainless to 40-60 degrees pretty good its getting it under that 2inch mark that makes you work a little harder.

Work with stainless exclusively and drillrod and you will never have this problem and good old CRS will become like butter.

That sounds like some good advise we should all listen to. If you are saying that and we are trying to get to you level (if that is even possible) we should do things the same way you do them. Thanks.

Excuse me here Mike. How long have you bent, 3 months or so? And you're already sniffing on the grand shiny...imagine if you kept at it for 7 years, well perhaps you wouldn't be too far away from "gazza level". Think about it, today there are several elite benders who only have been doing it for quite a short time (I think Paul Knight reached bkoab after less than a year of bending (or if it was even shorter), there are other examples as well).

But, where would they be (bending-wise) if they kept doing it for 7 years?

Exactly :rock But its also what you do in those 7 yrs? i mostly bent steel!

Well yeah, I kind of meant "where will they be if they keep training and improving their bending for 7 years?" :D

But my point is, we are a young sport (if we choose to look upon it as sport), and right now there are examples of people reaching elite level in less than a year of training. Then I say, what if they would continue to do hard, bending-specific, training for 5-6 more years?

Exactly more specific bending in those 5-7 yrs and less spreading themselves out on other things like grippers,pinch,v-bar etc just bend for a good 5yrs and i bet most will do what ive done and more i didnt start till i was 40yrs old and dont have favourable genetics so the likes of a Paul Knight young with favourable genetics who just specialised in bending KAPOW! holy bat shit Robin :D
