Congratulations! You've joined the elite group at the top of the crushing grip world. :bow You'll get nothing but respect and admiration from the grip community for this achievement (especially since this is under the new rules). Hope you keep at it and try for a shot at the #4 sometime in the future. I'd like to cert on the #3 someday as well, so your success is motivation for me. :rock

Thanks everyone!

I do hope this will atleast encourage someone to work hard towards that goal, seeing that you don't need bigger than average hands to accomplish this. Personally I don't like the hand size discussion, but I've seen many get discouraged because "they can't wrap their pinky around the handle", so I had to comment on that. Never give up!

Teemu I,

Great accomplishment. The Ironmind article mentioned a couple of things that

I would like to ask you about.

First, it mentioned Suomi. Is that the national language of Finland or

does it refer to something else?

Second, you mentioned that you do not have to have huge forearms to

close monster grippers. Could you give your forearm and hand sizes

so that people that are not blessed genetically with huge forearms

will be even more inspired by your accomplishment.

Onward and upward. Once again the Scandinavians and strength

seem to be at another level. What would you attribute that to?

Genetics, determination, smart training techniques, etc.?

I finally saw the video. You played with that gripper. It looked like

you were doing negatives with it. If there has ever been an

unquestionable close, that had to be it. You also looked like

you had a national audience and presentation taking place at

the same time. Additional pressure, all. Very impressive.

I can answer couple of those.

Yes, Our national languages are finnish and swedish.

Another level.. ermm.. I think the main reason is that determination and strong minds. All of you know how tough this mentally.

Thank you!

Suomi just means Finland in finnish language.

I find it somewhat irrelevant to discuss about the excact hand and forearm measurements, because strength in general comes more down to nervous system vs. muscular size. While muscular hypertrophy is beneficial to any strength sport it is often overlooked when talking about grip strength.

Relatively muscular forearms can be developed if that is desirable. I don't understand why anyone would want to worry about their genetics, it's not time that is well spent. My forearms are small as can be seen on the video, I'm not too big othervise either and my hands look girly! But I don't care. I've experienced some muscular growth in my forearms as an indirect result of the intense grip training but I probably do need to pack some meat to my forearms in the future for better grip strength gains.

The "secret" of the Finns, if there is such thing, is determination and mindset for hard, long-term work that is passed on from one generation to the next. :) It is something that's deep in our culture. But it is something that can be learned, it's not anything that lies in the genetics, so any guy from any culture can develop that mindset, it's not that some people are born to be more hard working or determined than others. In strength training, it all comes down to person's ability to work hard systematically and progressively long enough. If you don't see results the reason most likely comes back to you, you have to keep asking yourself are you working hard enough and you have to be honest about it to yourself. Forget about the genetics, forget about the new, supposed to be better-routines and just concentrate on hard, progressive work on the basics long enough (instead of trying this and trying that for too short periods of time) and you can expect to see the results.

Thanks again, everyone! :)

How did that #3 compare to the others you've tried?

My estimate of that #3 is that it's quite close to average or maybe just slighly above. I will get that cert gripper calibrated soon, I'll have a better idea then.

didnt you cert on this like a year ago? i remmber seeing the video?

You remember right, I did, but it was rejected then because it was still unclear if you have to use a gripper out of the package or not. This time it was all good. :)
